SUMMARY:Insights into the EU Project REPERTORIUM - Future from our Past
DESCRIPTION:Ein Podiumsgespräch mit Cristina Alís Raurich (Instituto Complu
tense de Ciencias Musicales - ICCMU), David Rizo (University of Alicante)\n
\nREPERTORIUM investigates how artificial intelligence can be applied to th
e digitisation of ancient and classical manuscripts, combining the preserva
tion of Europe’s musical heritage with state-of-the-art optical music recog
nition (OMR) technologies. The project has created a full digital archive o
f the Solesmes collection - over 100,000 sacred chants - whose images provi
de the training material for OMR systems. This large corpus is central to d
eveloping reliable tools able to “read” and process medieval notations, whi
ch differ significantly from modern scores.\n\nWithin REPERTORIUM, the Inst
ituto Complutense de Ciencias Musicales, the Complutense University of Madr
id, the University of Jaén, as well as the University of Alicante are coope
rating to produce data (transcription), develop algorithms (recognition), a
nd publish the results (e.g. through the Cantus Index). REPERTORIUM is fund
ed by the European Union through a Horizon Research and Innovation grant.
