DESCRIPTION:The 9th Symposium of the Music & Gender Study Group of the Inte
 rnational Council for Traditional Music will be hosted by the Institute of 
 Musicology and the Center for Global Studies at the University of Bern (Swi
 tzerland), July 13–16, 2016.\n\nThe papers of this conference address gende
 r studies within the frame of current global processes, e.g. migration, tra
 nsnationalism, diaspora, cross-cultural and/or cross-genre fusions and hybr
 idity. The organizers encouraged especially the use of major analytical fra
 meworks from feminist, masculinity, and queer studies to place musical data
  into the interdisciplinary conversations on theory. Presenters were invite
 d to relate their papers to one of the following three topics:\n\nGender, M
