Stellenausschreibung: IMS Generalsekretär/Generalsekretärin ad interim

Organization: The international Musicological Society
Position: Secretary General ad interim 2019 – 2022
Deadline for application: June 1st, 2018

Due to the retirement of the secretary general, the International Musicological Society (IMS) is searching for an interim successor for the rest of the period of office, beginning on January 3, 2019, and ending with the IMS General Assembly in Athens in 2022 where a secretary general will be elected for a new period of office.

The secretary general is expected to collaborate closely with the president, executive officer, treasurer, and the Directorium.

The secretary general deals with the administrative affairs of the IMS which include: assisting the president in the daily business of the society; preparing the agenda of the meetings of the IMS General Assembly, Directorium, and Bureau (together with the president); writing and distributing the minutes; and organizing elections.

The headquarters of the IMS is in Basel, but the day-to-day work is carried out off-site. The secretary general will need to be present at all official meetings of the Bureau and the Directorium which take place in Basel and different locations across the world.

The IMS Statutes require the secretary general to be a Swiss member of the IMS, resident in Switzerland. Candidates must have a PhD (or equivalent) in musicology and be fluent in spoken and written English which is the working language of the IMS.

As with all positions on the Bureau, this position is without salary. However, the IMS will cover all travel costs for meetings and provide a small remuneration to cover expenses.

Please fill out the application form no later than June 1, 2018. All applications must be accompanied by a CV and cover letter. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
